Divine Question & Response (Q&R)
The Divine Question and Response (Q&R) technique is an incredible way to open the door to hearing God, seek God’s plan, and receive responses to specific questions.
The beauty of the technique is it creates a safe space to practice and receive feedback related to hearing God because He often shares similar words, pictures or concepts with more than one person or He builds upon what each person receives from Him….and sometimes something is clearly off – which is great feedback for us!
How it works:
- Gather a group of 3-4 people including yourself. If possible plan to meet once a week for 3-4 weeks to get started.
- Bring a notebook and something to write with.
- Meet somewhere where you won’t be interrupted, either in person or virtually.
- Plan approximately 10 minutes to get started and 15 minutes per person.
- At the beginning of the meeting have someone share a bible verse that has been meaningful to them this week and then open up the time with a brief prayer for the group. I often ask God for guidance, protection, and clarity.
- Then the first person shares a question they have for God and a little background if they would like. It is easier to hear God’s answers when the questions are specific and succinct, but sometimes a little bit of discussion is needed to get to the root of the question. Start with simple questions such as:
- I have a business opportunity – what would You like to share?
- I am consistently losing sales at the same point in the sales process. God, what is blocking us?
- Turnover is high in 1 specific position, what do I need to know and how can I change this dynamic?
- Someone else in the group prays for this person and asks God their question for them. Then everyone is quiet for 30 seconds to a couple of minutes as God provides a phrase, song, picture, memory, bible verse, or communicates with each person in some way. each person writes down what God shares and when everyone is ready each person shares what God communicated to them. The person who originally asked the question shares last.
- When everyone has shared, another person prays for the person based on the answers God provided.
- Then we move on to the next person.
- When the last person has gone, have someone close out the time together and pray a blessing and protection over everyone.
Some groups do 3-4 of these with me and then continue on their own. Others like me to continue leading and sharing what I hear from God consistently. Groups of 3-4 work the best but I have done as little as 2nd as many as 7.
